On Saturday April 4, 2015 Werner Paddles Teammate Jeff Herman and I will be making the long trip to Delacroix Island, Louisiana to compete in the Adventure Fishing World Championship as Team WernerPaddlesTX. This unique marathon style fishing tournament requires two man teams to reach and catch fish at 4 of 7 eligible checkpoints and return by 5:00 pm. The team that returns on time with the longest combined length of redfish, black drum, bass, and trout will be crowned the champion at the end of the day. The catch is that each checkpoint is kept a secret until the start of the race when teams will be given a map marked with the location of each checkpoint. Teams must quickly decide which checkpoints to visit, which routes to take to get there, and what order they should go in. By the time most teams makes it back to the launch, they will have put in between 15-20 miles, with a few teams covering even more than that. This tournament is sure to test an anglers ability to plan quickly, paddle long distances, and catch quality fish without the luxury of time. I’m looking forward to the challenge and I’m excited to fish the waters of Louisiana. As you can see from the picture below, there’s marsh as far as the eye can see.
